An Italian Foreign Ministry report on 2019 arms exports has finally lifted the lid on a highly lucrative military helicopter deal between Leonardo and Egypt.
The manufacturer is selling 24 AW149 multirole and eight AW189 super medium class aircraft to Cairo at a cost of €871 million ($958 million), according to figures from the report.
The disclosure marks the first occasion details of the order have been placed on public record, following news from La Tribune in April 2019 that said Leonardo had won business for the AW149 after Egypt had sided with it, instead of a rival Airbus bid
